CelebMix Turns 1: 10 of the Best Birthday Related Songs

May 2024 · 3 minute read

It’s CelebMix’s first birthday on May 22nd and we’re celebrating our little milestone all week long. What better way to turn up the celebrations than by sharing our ultimate birthday playlist? Get your party hats on as we take you through some of the best birthday related songs to ever exist!

1. Katy Perry – ‘Birthday’

Katy Perry released ‘Birthday’ back in 2014 and the catchy track has since sold over one million copies in the US. The video depicts Katy dressed up as five different characters, known as the world’s worst birthday party entertainers. Each character attends a different party, with no-one knowing that it’s actually Katy Perry! We wonder what disguise she’ll come up with for our CelebMix party?!

2. will.i.am featuring Cody Wise – ‘It’s My Birthday’

‘It’s My Birthday’ was a number one smash hit for will.i.am and Cody Wise in the UK back in 2014. This song is such a jam and is guaranteed to get everyone bopping at any birthday party!

3. Selena Gomez – ‘Birthday’

This song appeared on Selena’s debut solo album Stars Dance in 2013. She released an accompanying video for it to celebrate her 21st birthday, which features her partying with her friends. We can definitely bust a few moves to this song!

4. Disney – ‘Happy Happy Birthday To You’

Seeing as CelebMix will turning 1, we think this song is very appropriate! Although having said that, Disney is completely ageless – you are never ever too young or old for it. Don’t mind us as we’ll be having a birthday dance with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and the rest of the crew.

5. The Beatles – ‘Birthday’

Undeniably one of the biggest bands to ever grace the music world, even The Beatles released a song all about birthdays! It appeared on their double album The Beatles (known as The White Room) all the way back in 1968. In recent years, it was performed at Radio City Hall in 2010 when Sir Paul McCartney surprised Ringo Starr for his 70th birthday.

6. Rihanna – ‘Birthday Cake’

Okay, so this song is called ‘Birthday Cake’ but it’s pretty notorious for being a bit naughty and not really about birthday cake at all. However, if you just take it at face value and pretend that she’s talking about cake, then we’re definitely like Rihanna and want all that cake, cake, cake, cake, cake.

7. Flo Rida – ‘Birthday’

We know that Flo Rida is a bit of a Wild One but we definitely forgot that he likes to sing about birthdays! He’ll be the life and soul of any party and would probably get along well with Rihanna as he’s all about the birthday cake too.

8. Madonna – ‘B-Day Song’

Madonna’s ‘B-Day Song’, featuring Mya, is a track from her MDNA album which was released in 2012. It’s very retro sounding and we’re going to be singing “I know it’s gonna be a good day, oh yeah, today is my birthday” at the top of our lungs on the 22nd!

9. Destiny’s Child – ‘Birthday’

Once upon a time, Lemonade was just a drink and Destiny’s Child was a four-piece group. In 1998, DC (with a line up consisting of Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett) released their debut album which included ‘Birthday’. It’s a slow jam, perfect for when the party’s slowly coming to an end.

10. Stevie Wonder – ‘Happy Birthday’

Last but not least, we HAD to include this legendary bop from Stevie Wonder, as quite frankly, we never want the celebrations to end. No birthday is complete without Stevie singing ‘Happy Birthday To You’ so we’re just going to have this track on repeat on our special day!

Which was your favourite birthday bop? Let us know @CelebMix or leave a comment below.
