Usamos say (decir) para citas textuales:
- She said, “I’m vey happy”. (Ella dice, “Estoy muy feliz”)
También podemos usar say (decir) para citas no textuales siempre que no se menciona a la persona que habla:
- She said that she was very happy. (Ella dijo que estaba muy feliz)
Usamos tell (decir) para citas no textuales cuando se menciona a la persona que habla:
- She tell me that she was very happy. (Ella me dijo que estaba muy feliz)
Si usamos say y mencionamos a la persona que habla debemos escribir say + to + object pronoun (me, you, him, her, it, us, them):
- She said to me, “I’m very happy” (Ella me dijo, “Estoy muy feliz”)
Hay que recordar que el pasado de say: said. Y el pasado de tell: told.
