LeVar Burton has been a face of comfort for multiple generations. The former Reading Rainbow host is being name-dropped for the new host of Jeopardy.
Alex Trebek sadly succumbed to cancer on Sunday. Fans of the quiz show are mourning all over the world.
The show will go on after airing Alex’s last episode on Christmas Day. Now fans are chiming in on who they think would carry the show and respect Alex’s legacy.
A Change.org petition has garnered over 30k signatures to have LeVar take over the duties.
The petition reads: ‘Between hosting 21 seasons of the educational Reading Rainbow, playing the brainiac engineer Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: the Next Generation, and filling the roll of Kunta Kinte in the ever important mini-series Roots, LeVar Burton has inspired and shaped the minds of several generations of trivia-loving nerds. This petition is to show Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. and producers Mike Richards and Harry Friedman just how much love the public has for Burton, and how much we’d all love to see him as the next host of Jeopardy!’

‘For my entire life LeVar Burton has been a beacon of wisdom, literacy, and humanity. I can think of no better successor to the late Alex Trebek,’ wrote one.
‘I could honestly get behind this. Levar can never replace Alex, but I think he would make a great host. I just hope the show runners don’t hire someone peppy and obnoxious to host and ruin the dynamic of the show,’ added another.
This commentator wrote: ‘At this time, with first-run shows still airing, it’s difficult to think of anyone as a next host for Jeopardy. But LeVar Burton has the class and gravitas to pull it off. No matter who it is, they need to be welcomed, with the full support of the fans behind the new choice. Of course, we all know Alex wanted Betty White, but I hear she’s already involved in other projects.’
