How to download YouTube videos to watch later

May 2024 · 3 minute read

If you’re anything like us, you’ll probably spend far too much time on YouTube.

Whether we’re catching up on a new Louis Tomlinson interview, watching an Ariana Grande performance or reliving a hilarious scene from last week’s RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, we can’t seem to get enough of YouTube and its endless array of awesome, engaging content.

But when we’re on our way to the office on the underground or we’re spending a weekend away without WiFi, it can suck when you can no longer watch your favourite videos, or get through your Watch Next list. Luckily, there’s a solution – today, we’re going to show you how to download YouTube videos to your phone, laptop, or tablet to watch at a later date.

Download YouTube videos

Once you’ve decided on a video you want to download, the next step is to copy the YouTube video URL (found in your browser bar) and then visit the YouTube download tool website.

When you’re there, paste the video link into the search box at the top of the page and press the Download button or the Enter key on your laptop, and the video will begin to process.

From there, the tool will search for the available downloads and display them for you to see, and you’ll be able to right-click on the download link and choose Save As to download the video to your laptop. If you’re on your phone, you’ll be able to open and play the video there and use the iOS or Android download system to save the video to your Files application.

The even better part is that with BitDownloader, it’s possible to download your favourite video content from across the web – not only YouTube.

Indeed, Facebook and Instagram videos are supported, so you can rip a video from Lady Gaga’s Instagram feed to share on your own social media handles or to save in your special folder, and because the tool is free to use, the only limitation is how much storage space you have on your devices.

You don’t need to download any software, register for an account and there are no restrictions for use – you can pretty much download any video on YouTube or social media for your personal use.

Another reason why you might want to use the tool is to serve as a back-up for your social media profiles. If you’ve uploaded tonnes of awesome videos, you can use the tool to download them to a hard drive so you’ll never lose them, should your account be suspended or removed.

And the same for videos of other people – celebrities often delete everything on their social media pages to start a new era, and so downloading everything they’ve ever uploaded will allow you to create an archive and hold onto those special video memories.

Have you tried the tool? Let us know what you think of it over on @CelebMix, and let us know what videos you’ve got saved to your phones. Send in some screenshots and we’ll continue the conversation over on Twitter. Until then, have fun downloading some videos!
