Kiiara Drops Debut Album's Lead Single "Open My Mouth"

May 2024 · 2 minute read

“When I open my mouth, I let you down” goes the chorus to Kiiara’s brand new track and we most certainly have to disagree: the American singer-songwriter never lets us down. Especially not with this new bop!

Her new release is titled “Open My Mouth” and deals with the singer’s anxiety and her often troubled relationship with herself. In an official statement, Kiiara explained that she wanted to release a track to empower others struggling with the same issues. You might expect a ballad now but Kiiara turned this heavy topic into an uplifting summer record, filled with glitchy vocals and productions that take inspiration from her standout hit “Gold”. It is catchy, instantly enjoyable and a feel-good track like no other.

“Open My Mouth” not only marks Kiiara’s first solo release of the year but -most importantly- also the beginning of a new era as the song is being promoted as the lead single to her first studio album ever.

You heard that correctly. Her first full-length project.

According to an interview with Paper Magazine, the record is yet untitled though and a release date is still to be announced but it will be during autumn. Kiiara also revealed that she co-wrote with long-time collaborator Teddy Sinclair (aka Natalia Kills) on a couple of songs but -as the final track list is not finished yet- she is still unsure whether they will make it on the final record. Exciting stuff is obviously about to happen in the near future.

For now, we will have to be satisfied with the knowledge that more music will follow soon and that “Open My Mouth” is the summer song we needed.

You can not only enjoy the official song but also its accompanying video. It was directed by Juliana Carpino and features the summer 2019 collection of Christian Cowen as well as a small appearance by heart throb Austin Mahone.

“Open My Mouth” was released via EFFESS and Atlantic Records this Friday. It was co-written by Kiiara, Joseph Spargur, Amy Allen, Scott Harris and Ian Kirkpatrick. The latter also handled the production.
