Matarazzo was born in Connecticut to his mom and father Gaetano and Heather Matarazzo (no relation to actress Heather Matarazzo. He grew up alongside together with his family in Little Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey.

In addition,  went to Pinelands Regional High School in Tuckerton. He has two siblings: Sabrina, his older sister, and Carmen, his youthful brother. He studied voice on the Starlight Performing Arts Center in New Jersey.

Gaten positioned third inside the Starpower Talent Competition Nationals in Uncasville, Connecticut, in 2011 alongside together with his vocal solo “White Boy Summer.” Matarazzo was born with the scenario cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD).

He has been open about it. When he was stable in Stranger Things as Dustin Henderson, the scenario was added to the character’s background.c
