On The Record – the documentary regarding Russell Simmons –  has officially made its way to HBO Max, and Russell Simmons is now telling his side of the story. As fans of the hip-hop juggernaut know, Simmons has been one of the most outspoken individuals in rap music for years.

However, he was accused of sexual assault by over a dozen women since the #MeToo movement began in late 2017. Since then, Simmons has all but disappeared from the limelight. Russell has denied the allegations against him.

For instance, he even accused Oprah Winfrey of telling lies about him in the press, until she dropped out at the last minute. She was to be one of the executive producers of the series, but she canceled her involvement with the program because she said she wasn’t happy with how it was done.

On the 9th of June, DJ Envy explained that Russell Simmons, the Def Jam Recordings co-founder, would actually be appearing on The Breakfast Club on the 10th of June to discuss the allegations against him as well as the new HBO documentary.

Sil Lai Abrams, one of the accusers involved, didn’t take this too lightly. She later lit The Breakfast Club up on social media, accusing everyone involved in being a rape apologist. Coincidentally, Charlemagne The God, the figurehead of the radio show, has also been accused of sexual assault.

Regardless, Sil Lai Abrams stands behind her claim that Russell Simmons sexually assaulted her back in 1994. She took to her Twitter account to ask why The Breakfast Club has chosen to stand behind Russell Simmons, who has been accused of assault by dozens of women.

Russell’s case has been near the top in terms of the most publicized #MeToo accusations to come out since it all began in late 2017.

The movement started with the allegations against Harvey Weinstein, who was later charged, convicted, sentenced, and incarcerated for what appears to be the rest of his life. It was described as a huge win for the #MeToo movement in the mainstream press.
